The Merlion Series

The Merlion Statue is a symbol of the city-state of Singapore. Designed in 1964 by British zoologist Alec Fraser-Brunner, this iconic logo depicts a mythical creature with the head of a lion and a body of a fish riding above the waves.

The lion is a reference to Sang Nila Utama, a Srivijayan prince who named the island Singapura, which means "Lion City" in Sanskrit, after spotting the animal. The body of the Merlion alludes to the country's humble beginnings as a fishing village when it was called Temasek, that originates from the root word “tasek”, meaning ‘lake’ in Malay.

Using grains sourced locally in the subtropical region, this Single Grain is carefully distilled and aged in selected oak casks which imparts many layers of flavours. The result is hints of sweetcorn, vanilla and herbal notes on the nose, subtle floral, oaky and smooth texture on the palate with some layers of complexity that lingers with a medium finish.
