Edition 1819 - Merlion Series
The Merlion Statue is a symbol of the city-state of Singapore. Designed in 1964 by British zoologist Alec Fraser-Brunner, this iconic logo depicts a mythical creature with the head of a lion and a body of a fish riding above the waves.
The lion is a reference to Sang Nila Utama, a Srivijayan prince who named the island Singapura, which means "Lion City" in Sanskrit, after spotting the animal. The body of the Merlion alludes to the country's humble beginnings as a fishing village when it was called Temasek, that originates from the root word “tasek”, meaning ‘lake’ in Malay.
Using the finest malted barley and other grains sourced locally in the sub-tropical region of Taiwan, this Single Grain is matured in American oak casks which impart many layers of flavour, resulting in hints of herbal aroma and floral note on the nose, a mellow and oaky expression on the palate that lingers with a subtle sweet finish.
